Custom Retaining Wall Keeps Beach Sand Out of the Lake

This one came with a clear problem - beach sand washing straight into the lake. Every rain event, every wave, more sand gone. The homeowner wanted to stop the erosion and keep his beach intact without losing access to the water.

Here's what made this job interesting: the subsoil beneath the surface was in rough shape. Poor base conditions mean a wall can shift, settle, or fail down the road if you don't address it properly up front. We weren't willing to shortcut that. We put in the extra base work - 2.5 tons of large clean aggregate plus a full foot of clean stone underneath - so this wall has a foundation that will hold.

The wall itself curves along the beach perimeter and includes built-in steps on both sides, giving easy access down to the sand from the yard. No awkward scramble down a slope. Just a clean, functional transition from the lawn to the beach. That kind of detail makes the space a lot more usable day to day.
